The Bug Bar Spray (and People Didn't Know they Needed It)

I didn't expect this one to take off the way it has.

I made the Bug Bar Spray because the Bug Bar was so good, I wanted that effect in an instant spray for travel.  Getting eaten alive at every outdoor market, every backyard hang, every walk near the water was not cool. So I made my own stuff with very natural essential oils and no DEET.

Eucalyptus citriodora and geranium, suspended in perfumer's alcohol with a little vegetable glycerin so it doesn't dry out your skin. That's the spray.

Since it launched in June, it has been selling out at markets.

Here's what I'm hearing from people:

Mosquitoes seem to want nothing to do with anyone wearing it. I've had more than one customer come back the following week just to tell me it worked — we had a chat and my results have been the same. Geranium in particular has a reputation ticks aren't fans of, which is a nice bonus if you're anywhere near tall grass or woods this summer.

What's actually in it:

  • Eucalyptus Citriodora Leaf Oil
  • Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil
  • Perfumer's alcohol
  • A touch of vegetable glycerin, so it feels like a spritz, not a solvent
  • Distilled water

No paraffins. No phthalates. Nothing synthetic doing the heavy lifting. As far as I can tell, everything in this bottle is vegan — the alcohol isn't derived from anything animal-based, and neither is anything else in the formula.

Why people keep coming back for it:

It smells good. It goes on light. And it's made in small batches, by hand, by me, in Jersey City — which means a lot :)

If you've been on the fence, or if you tried it at the market and forgot to grab more before you left town this weekend — it's on the site now: presentdaygoods.com

Find me Tuesdays at Journal Square, Thursdays at McGinley Square, and rotating through Hoboken, Lincoln Park, and Riverview on weekends. Or just come find the table with the skulls on it. You'll know it when you see it.

Present Day Goods is handmade in small batches in Jersey City, NJ. Real ingredients, no overclaiming, made by someone who actually wants to wear it herself.
